Exchange Transport Rule Issue (Exchange 2007)

$
0
0

I've set up a Transport Rule to accomplish a DoNotReply bounceback to an outside source when outside people try and reply to an automated email sent from the internal DoNotReply email account.

I sent some test emails from DNR and they go through to my outside test accounts.  When I reply to those emails from my outside test Gmail or Hotmail accounts, the emails are not delivered to my internal DNR account, (which is what I want), BUT the bounce back message that I declared in my Transport Rule isn't being delivered back to the outside email accounts either.  Hence, this is my issue.

I tracked one of my test messages down in the logs and it appears the Transport Rule is doing it's job (See Below).

The only other thing I should note is that we have Google Cloud SPAM filtering in place, so I'm not sure if that would be causing an issue.

With that said, any ideas as to why the message isn't being auto-delivered back to the outside source?

Exchange Server 2010 Transport Rule: "when a recipient's address matches text patterns" not working

$

This rule, and the "contains certain words" counterpart don't appear to be working.  I have a single server with no Edge Transport, just the local Hub Transport, and neither of these rules appear to be working as described, if at all.  I have the latest version of 2010 SP2 with the latest patches.  If I create a rule'^no-reply@', 'no-reply', and many different variations, none of them will match an address of'no-reply@domain.com'.  It won't work if I enter whole email address in the pattern, or contains words, either.  Is this a known issue?  If so, is there a work-around?

Good morning,
we have a problem with sending emails from domain @macauditor.pl to domains which are hosted on Outlook.com or protected by Microsoft Forefront. Problem occurred after we changed IP address of our mail server. We have set MX, revDNS and SPF records correctly, but still are getting the following NDR:
"550 5.7.1 Service unavailable; Client host [217.67.215.242] blocked using FBLW15; To request removal from this list To request removal from this list please forward this message to delist@messaging.microsoft.com".
I have sent email to "delist@messaging.microsoft.com" but didn't get any response other than this:
"Thank you for your delisting request SRX1244578730ID. Your ticket was received on (Apr 28 2014 11:11 AM UTC) and will be responded to within 24 hours."
It has been nearly 2 days since our first request and we are still unable to send emails to domains: @bbdo.com.pl, @mediadirection.com.pl, @ideatfi.pl, @inventumtfi.pl. Those domains belong to our important clients, so this is a huge problem for us.

We have already checked our IP at http://www.anti-abuse.org/ and it seems that we are 'clean' everywhere. Only MS is blocking our emails.

Kind Regards,

Hi,

we have a problem with some of our applilcation that sends mail through our exchange 2007 sp1server get the following eror:

421 4.3.2 Service not available, closing transmission channel

I have added the ipaddress for these servers on the allow list and anonymous are enabled on the default receive connector. I'm not able to telnet against port 25 when logged on to serverar. I then get the same error as above. However, I am able to receice mail from our external mail hosts?

Any ideas?

Exchange Contacts, acceped domains, policies and GAL updates

$

Greetings,

I have come into an Exchange 2010 environment that was configured some time ago and the current SMEs don't fully understand what is happening and why.

Let's say our domain is @abc.com. We have another part of our organization with a completely separate Exchange environment called, say, @xyz.com. Every day they dump AD contacts into one of our OUs - so this would include updates/deletions and new contacts. What process updates our GAL from this OU? I cannot find where in the exchange console it points to this OU. Or does the GAL update process all AD contacts from all OUs automatically?

We have an email address policy for all mail contacts which adds a new SMTP email address called <name>@contacts.local. We then have an Accepted domain called contacts.local which is configured as an internal relay. What is this all about? I thought that if I wanted to send a message to anyone @xyz.com, our exchange server would do the normal MX record lookup and send away.

A large number of our @xyz.contacts have blank X400 addresses. why would this be? When I run a powershell script to remove the blank X400 address from a single contact, I get a message saying "This object must be upgraded..."? Why is this? Could it be related to the fact that we upgraded from EX2003 to Ex2010 a couple of years ago?

Thanks

David Z

Exchange 2007 Transport service won't stay started.

I just updated my system this morning with the latest updates from MS and now the Microsoft Exchange Transport service (new in 2007) won't stay started. When I attempt to start the service, I receive the following error:

The Microsoft Exchange Transpoft service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service.

I've restarted the server and all exchange services several times with no results. Because this service is not running, users cannot send or receive mail.

HELP!

Big Bounce Message (NDR) -> BADMAIL -> FAIL

$

0

I've posted my question already in:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchange2010/thread/f4ba7086-af0c-4580-94c9-d1d0d0f47fc4

but there no one answered. I thought, maybe the wrong forum.

So here again the Same question:

Main Information:

Version: Exchange 2010 SP1 RU2

I'm using a SmartHost to Send Mails. (SmartHost uses qmail)

Maximum Receive size is set to 50MB (in Global transport settings and receive connectors)

Problem descritption:

If I send a Mail with a 24MB attachment (.zip file) with the Exchange Server to my @gmail.com address, Google rejects the message because it is too big. So the SmartHost generates a BounceMessage and sends it back to my Exchange Server. The BounceMessage is approx. 30MB big. The Exchange Server accepts the Message and tries to deliver it. But here is the problem: I never get the BounceMessage in Outlook or OWA.

So I've checked the Message tracking:

There are 3 entries for the BounceMessage:

--- Entry 1 ---

EventId: RECEIVE
Source: SMTP
TotalBytes: 34079521
....

--- Entry 2 ---

EventId: BADMAIL
Source: DSN
TotalBytes: 34079521
...

--- Entry 3 ---

EventID: FAIL
Source: STOREDRIV
TotalBytes: 34079521
ReceipientStatus:
554 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver.Exception:MessageSubmissionExceededException.MapiExceptionMaxSubmissionExceeded; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message Die Verarbeitung der Zustellungszeit kann nicht abgeschlossen werden.[... A LOT OF NUMBERS ...] [Stage: Delivery]
...

The german Message in the third entry means something like: "Processing of delivery time cannot be completed"

What i've found out already:

  • If I send a mail with an attached .exe file (less than 1KB) to my @gmail account, google rejects this message (.exe not allowed). The Smart Host generates the BounceMessage, Exchange accepts it and sends it to my account. So here is no problem. Theproblem is only with big attachments
  • If I send the mail with 24MB attachment directly, without a SmartHost the undeliverable-Report is sent to my account, so there is alsono problem
  • If I send the mail with 24MB attachment from an external mail account to my exchange mail account, everything works fine .

Possibilities to solve the problem:

  • Can someone try to use his Exchange Server to send a mail with big attachment (24MB) over a SmartHost to a gmail address.
  • How can I find out, why Exchange declares the BounceMail as BADMAIL and then as FAIL

Thanks a lot for your help!!

Compromised account sending Spam

$

Hi,

I have an Exchange server version 2010 Sp3. It is not an open relay however I discovered it was sending spam.

I've limited the max recipient number so only 50 recipients can receive any 1 email, this will limit the amount of spam that can be sent if it gets through - if I view a message property I can see the source IP and block that IP range in my default receive connector - OK until the IP of the spammer changes. Normally the Source IP would be 255.255.255.255 but in my case on spam emails is 92.223.197.87 - well it is today.

So how is spam being sent through my server?

On investigation I suspect a user account has become compromised so I have forced a password change for all users having revised the password policy on the Active Directory (Windows 2012 server) - change of password required every 90 days minimum 6 chars - mix of upper/lower case and a number and or symbol, account name prohibited in password.

However I have some users who have not changed their password as they are away and I can't force a change as it will disconnect them - these users seem to have secure enough passwords as they all seem pretty security conscious.

So my question is - is there any way I can find out from logs etc what account is being used - if that is the case? I have turned on verbose logging but searching this morning for that IP in the logs I can only see entries like the following:

2015-08-29T08:37:03.228Z,,08D2A8B116D469D0,0,132.147.155.179:25,92.223.197.87:63488,+,,

Getting 5.4.6 Hop count exceeded after adding new accecpted domain and email address policy

$

Exchange 2007 sp3, we added a new accepted domain and edited our default email address policy to configure users with the new domain name email address (also kept our old email domain so people could still receive email at old address).

Some users are reporting that external senders are getting 5.4.6 Hop count exceeded ndr errors when they email attachments to our users old email address. They can email to the old addresses (which we left in place) without issue, they get the5.4.6 Hop count exceeded error when sending to the old address with an attachment though...

the new addresses seem to be working OK

Any ideas on why this might be happening?

autodiscover and other error message

Hello All,

I am in the process of migrated from 2007 exchange to 2013 exchange. The install went great and I have created a mailbox and account on the new exchange and tested mail flow with now problems. I can log in to owa with the new account with no problems.
When I try to use outlook on a machine to set up mail it will not set up. It keeps asking for a password over and over again and this loop never ends.

I am not sure if this is related to auto discover but I also ran that test and it failed.

I have created a srv in dns for autodiscover and I have the external address set as well. Please Help

Thanks.

Which settings for "MaxRecipientsPerMessage" will take precedence in the following scenario???

$

0

Dear All,

I am in the confusion about the following settings in the Exchange regarding the"MaxRecipientsPerMessage"

We are running exchange 2007 SP1 with RU 10 and we have 3 hub servers which are having the following settings.

1. Global Transport Settings Maximum Number of Recipients = 5000

2. Server1-> Client Server1 = 200, Default Server1 =5000, Connector-1= 200

    Server2-> Client Server2 = 200, Default Server2 = 5000, Connector-1= 200, Connector-2= 200

    Server3-> Client Server3 = 200, Default Server3 = 5000, Connector-1= 200

Each Server and Each Recieve Connector settings are taken from the command Get-ReceiveConnector -Server ServerName |fl

Clarification required for following queries;

1. If a user sends email from internal to external\internal which settings will precede?

2. Also there are no custom settings for the individual mailbox.

Hi

We run SBS2011, since last friday for some reason all incoming mail is being rejected by exchange. The only thing that has been done is a Microsoft update. I can see the mail arriving at our Barracuda but is then rejected by exchange. we can still send mail out.

Hi, In my company we are facing lot of problems sending emails to some recipients when their email addresses are surrounded by single quotes, in Outlook. Ex.: 'example@xpto.com'. If we remove the quotes the message relays with no problem.

What should I do in this case? I'll appreciate any help.

We use Oulook 2007 and Exchange Server 2003.

Here is the error:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Hello,

I have installed Windows SBS2008 with Exchange server 2007. I noticed that somtimes can happend that the email reaches my SMTP server, but after that the mail is lost. There is no error anywhere..I turned on SmtpReceive log and at the end of the log I can see:

,DATA,

,354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>,

,250 2.0.0 OK,

,QUIT,

,221 2.0.0 Service closing transmission channel,

If everything is OK, I have (ie.) the following entry in log file:

DATA,
,354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>,
,250 2.6.0 <55ed7cf0.a50bc30a.1a51.ffffbbfa@mx.google.com> Queued mail for delivery,
,QUIT,
,221 2.0.0 Service closing transmission channel,

So the only differnece there is whene there is a message 250 2.0.0. OK, there is no message.

Is there any idea?

Thanks and BR.

Mailflow help - internal relayed messages ending up in junk mail

We have a few internal applications that relay messages through Exchange and these emails end up in user's junk mails a lot of times. Junk mail filtering in Outlook seems to be the culprit, but we do not want to disable this.

The only solution I can think of is enabling antispam and adding the sending IP addresses of these servers to the Allowed IP Addresses so each message's SCL is stamped as -1, however, we run a hybrid environment with EOP (all mailboxes are on prem, EOP for mail filtering only), and Microsoft's recommendation is to disable antispam on all HT when using EOP.

Any idea on how to proceed with this?
